David P. St. Jean

David St. Jean is a senior technology investment banker with more than 40 years of experience advising leading technology companies, boards of directors, private equity firms, and investors on transformational mergers and acquisitions, shareholder activism, restructurings, defense assignments, and capital raising transactions approaching $1 trillion in aggregate value.

 

Mr. St. Jean joined Centerview Partners in 2008, shortly after the firm’s founding, as one of its earliest Partners and established the firm’s West Coast presence. He was also a founding partner of the Centerview Capital Technology Fund and serves on its Investment Committee.

 

Representative advisory assignments include:

FIS — $43 billion acquisition of Worldpay (the largest financial technology acquisition in history), $9.1 billion acquisition of SunGard, and minority sale of Capco.

Qualcomm — Defense against Broadcom’s unsolicited $130 billion takeover proposal; proposed $47 billion acquisition of NXP Semiconductors; and strategic defense against Jana Partners’ activist campaign seeking the separation of Qualcomm’s licensing and semiconductor businesses.

Motorola — Board advisor on the $10 billion spin-off of Motorola Mobility, the $1.4 billion sale of its wireless infrastructure business to Nokia Siemens Networks, and Motorola Mobility’s subsequent $12.5 billion sale to Google.

Silver Lake — $25 billion acquisition of Dell.

Cisco — More than $15 billion of acquisitions, including the $6.9 billion acquisition of Scientific-Atlanta.

Xperi  — Merger of Xperi and TiVo and subsequent spin-off of Adeia.

JDSU — Spin-off of its optical components business (Lumentum).

DTS — Acquisitions of SRS Labs and iBiquity, followed by its sale to Tessera Technologies.

Metaswitch — Sale to Microsoft.

SonicWall — LBO by Thoma Bravo and subsequent resale to Dell.

Redback Networks — $2.1 billion sale to Ericsson.

 

Additional advisory and financing clients include Arris, Lucent, Avaya, Xerox, and numerous other leading technology companies.

 

Mr. St. Jean began his investment banking career at Drexel Burnham Lambert in 1987 and was recently recognized by the Financial Times as one of the world’s leading technology investment bankers.

 

He currently serves on the Board of Leaders of the USC Marshall School of Business, where he is a frequent guest lecturer, and on the Board of Directors of MatrixSpace, a defense technology company developing AI-enabled radar and sensor platforms for real-time airspace awareness.
